Vegan Cheese Scones

This is a very simple recipe which has never failed to be received well.  

It was written as a vegan recipe but can easily be made vegetarian by adding real cheese.  

Rose made these scones for the April 2013 gathering.  As well as the ingredients listed below, she also added a couple of tablespoons of Dairy Free Cheese Sauce powder..which worked really well! This can be bought in many supermarkets FREE FROM Sections; although, she bought hers from Holland and Barratts.

We suggest you eat these Scones cut in half and toasted with a small amount of margerine inside! Mmmmm...

  •  8 1/2 oz Plain Flour
  • 4 Teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cream of Tartar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • 4 oz Vegan Margarine (Rose used Vitalite)
  • 1/2 Cup Soya milk or as much as you need
  • 8 oz Grated Vegan Cheese (Rose used one pack of Cheddar style Cheezly which can be bought from Holland and Barratts or Morrisons in Peterborough)

1.Preheat oven to 180 degrees centigrade (or your ovens equivalent)

2. Sift all of the dry ingredients together. Add the margarine to your bowl and rub in with fingers 
    until it resembles breadcrumbs. 

3. Lightly fold in the Grated Cheese using a spatula or knife.

4. Add in just enough soya milk for the mixture to form a dough.

5. Seperate the dough into two equal balls and place on a Grease proof paper lined baking tray.

6. Cut the two balls of dough into 6 equal triangles each and separate the triangles slightly 
    so they don't stick together. - if your tray isn't big enough then cook each lot of 6 scones

7. Place in own and bake for approximately 12 – 15 minutes or until they are golden around the
